Agrarian Science in Primorye in the 20th and 21st century

The monograph overviews the origin of agricultural science in Primorye and describes the difficulties that the first researchers of the pre-revolutionary Russia encountered in the Primorsky governorate. The book presents the results of research on the main agricultural crops over many years and analyzes the inaccuracies in breeding and experimental work at the time when the erroneous ideas of Lysenko T.D. dominated agricultural biology.

The monograph demonstrates state-of-the-art studies on breeding, seed production, and other areas of agricultural industry.

This book might be useful for researchers, doctoral and undergraduate students, university professors, agribusiness professionals, and everyone who is interested in the history of the development of agrarian science and agricultural industry in Primorsky kray.

Biotechnology and breeding of buckwheat in the Russian Far East

This book summarizes the results of many years of our experiments as well as modern data of national and foreign studies on the use of biotechnology methods for breeding new buckwheat varieties. The monograph overviews the origin and history of species belonging to the genus Fagopyrum Mill. and their use in food industry and pharmacology. Representatives of the genus Fagopyrum are promising sources of flavonoid compounds, including quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (rutin and vitamic c), which has strong antioxidative, antibacterial, and hepatoprotective properties.

The book discusses the directions and results of breeding on common buckwheat (Fagopyrum Esculentum Moench) and suggests techniques for selecting and creating original plant material based on traditional and molecular genetic methods, and the breeding methods of cell and tissue culture on selective media. The monograph describes how heavy metals (serving as selective agents) impact the cells and tissues of buckwheat cultures and matured seeds. Considerable attention is paid to the content of flavonoids in different species and forms of Fagopyrum, the possibility to use them as crude drugs, and to the effect of biologically active compounds on growth and rutin accumulation in plants. Based on the research results, we determined diagnostic features for the selection of plant forms with a high rutin content and resistance to unfavorable biotic and abiotic factors.

The book might be useful for a wide range of specialists: breeders, biotechnologists, biochemists, professors, doctoral and undergraduate students, and agribusiness professionals.

Diseases and pests of soybean in the Russian Far East

The books describes the symptoms of common plant diseases, some morphological and biological characteristics of soybean pathogens, and the strategies that allow achieving the high yield and good quality of seeds.

The monograph might be interesting for seed producers, phytosanitary inspectors, ecologists, professors, doctoral and undergraduate students specializing in biological and agricultural sciences, and farmers.

Soybean in the Russian Far East

The monograph overviews the history and the economic importance of soybean growing in the Russian Far East. The book presents data on the biology, breeding, and seed production of soybean as well as on the technology for its growing, protection against diseases and pests, and food processing and on the economy of soybean production in the Russian Far East.

The book provides a detailed description of the genetic characteristics of soybean and relevant information on the cellular engineering and its use in soybean breeding. The monograph describes themost harmful diseases and pests of soybean under the monsoon conditions of Primorsky kray. Many possibilities for using soybean as a component of food products are explored.

The monograph might be useful for scientists, doctoral and undergraduate students, professors, and agribusiness professionals.
