Hybrid maize population Slavyanka was created through the hybridization of local variety accessions. The plant height is 210-260 cm. There are from 14 to 17 leaves on the main stalk. The number of ears per plant is 1.0-1.3. The ear height is 67-82 cm. Ears are conical or cylindrical, 16-20 cm in length. The number of rows per ear is 12-18; the number of grains per row is 30-45. Cob is either white, or pink, or red. The grain yield after threshing is 76-82%. The 1000 kernel weight is 284-310 g. Grains are yellow, yellowish white or yellow-orange. Hybrid maize population Slavyanka belongs to the medium early maturity group with a growing period of 106-112 days. The evarage grain yield is 4.32 t/ha.

Slavyanka was included in the State Register of Protected Selection Achievements of the Russian Federation and admitted to use in the Far Eastern region in 2002.

The breeders are N.A. Kraskovskaya, A.I. Maslovets, T.D. Martynyuk, S.V. Vityutnev, and M.V. Grishina.

Stevia variety Primorskaya Slastyona

Our scientists from the Laboratory of Agricultural Biotechnology created a new stevia variety Primorskaya Slastyona, which is well-adapted to the environmental and climatic conditions of Primorsky krai. This variety was included in the State Register of Selection Achievements admitted to use in the Russian Federation in 2016. Plants of the new variety have large leaves and a thick stem. They are resistant to lodging during heavy rains with strong winds, to diseases, and leaf loss. Variety Primorskaya Slastyona was created using the methods of individual selection and micropropagation. The leaf area index is 71.0 %, the branchiness is 71.7%. The yield of green leaves is 3.79 t/ha, the yield of dry leaf is 1.16 t/ha. This exceedes the standard (variety Ramonskaya Slastyona) by 0.37 and 0.28 t/ha, respectively. Leaves contain 13.6 % glycosides and 67.5 mg of vitamin C per 100 grams. Stevia plants reach maturity within 70 days.
