The breeders: N.A. Kraskovskaya, A.I. Maslovets, T.D. Martynyuk, S.V. Vityutnev, and M.V. Grishina.

Meadow fescue variety Vostochnaya

The variety was created by the method of multiple selection from wild populations.
Plant is moderately spreading and not dense. Stems are long (90 cm on average), smooth, and moderately coarse. The average number of internodes is 5 (ranges from 3 to 6 ). The leaf area index is low. Leaves are narrow, bright green, and glossy on the lower side. The type of inflorescences is a panicle with a length of 20 cm; awns and awn-like bristles are absent.
The variety is resistant to frost and drought. The regrowth starts early in spring. Most leaves are located close to roots; the leaf area index is 32,5 % at the first cutting and 54 % at the second cutting. When plants develop stems, generative shoots are the most numerous. The grass height is 65-95 cm at the first cutting and 80-100 cm at the seed harvest time. The growing period is 65-75 days from the beginning of the regrowth in spring to the first cutting and 48-60 days from the first to the second cutting.

Seeds reach the full maturity in 90-95 days after the beginning of the spring regrowth. Grass regrows rapidly after cutting and grazing and remains green in autumn until frosts are constant. All kinds of farm animals can feed on this grass both on pasture and in the form of hay. The yield of herbage is 0.2-0.3 t/ha, hay – 0.04-0.07 t/ha, and seeds – 0.003-0.007 t/ha. The dry matter contains 13% protein and 35.5 % fiber.

Measow fescue variety Vostochnaya was included in the State Register of the Breeding Achievements in 1980.

The breeders: E.D. Eremin, A.I. Zhivchikov, R.I. Zhivchikova, and A.K. Chaika.

Red clover variety Komandor
Red clover variety Komandor belongs to the intermidiate maturity group. Plants are semi-erect and have 20-30 stems per plant. Each stem has 2-3 branches. Leaves are large and have distinct light pigmentation. The type of inflorescences is a prolate head. The variety is suitable for two cuttings per season. The regrowth is rapid both in spring and after cuttings. The variety is characterized by high frost resistance and productivity under the conditions of Primorsky kray. Over the two cuttings, the variety can produce up to 0.25-0.4 t of herbage per ha. The dry matter of herbage contains 15% crude protein and 22-23% crude fiber.

The variety was included in the State Register of the Breeding Achievements in 1995.

Barnyard millet variety Ussuriyskaya

Barnyard millet is grown for grain, sillage, and herbage. Millet grain is used as fodder in poultry and pig farming and millet sillage – as fodder for cattle.

Barnyard millet variety Ussuriyskaya was released in Primorsky kray in 1957. This variety is highly adaptable to the soil and climatic conditions of the region. Variety Ussuriyskaya can produce high yield in soil with a high content of moisture and nutrients and is resistant to soil saturation and short-term waterlogging. Root system is strongly developed; plants are erect and high (70-150 cm). Plants have 7-9 leaves on the main stem. Middle and upper leaves are lancet-shaped, long (32-49 cm), and wide (1.7-2.4 cm). The type of inflorescences is a panicle with multiple spikelets and a length of 11.8-13.3 cm; awns are absent. The TKW is 2.5-3.0 g. Matured seeds are suscteptible to shedding.
The growing period is 90-102 days. The yield of herbage is 0.4 t/ha and of seeds – 0.020 t/ha.

Barnyard millet is a beneficial component in mixed cropfields with soybean and is characterized by a high fodder quality.

At the heading stage, herbage contains 7-10% crude protein, 20-30% dry matter, 22-27% water-soluble sugars, and 28-35% fiber.

Stevia variety Primorskaya Slastyona

Our researchers from the Laboratory of Agricultural Biotechnology created a new stevia variety Primorskaya Slastyona, which is well-adapted to the environmental and climatic conditions of Primorsky kray. This variety was included in the State Register of the Breeding Achievements admitted to use in the Russian Federation in 2016. Plants have large leaves and thick stems. Plants are resistant to lodging during heavy rains with strong winds, to diseases, and leaf loss. Variety Primorskaya Slastyona was created using the methods of individual selection and micropropagation. The leaf area index is 71.0 %, the branchiness is 71.7%. The yield of green leaves is 3.79 t/ha, the yield of dry leaf is 1.16 t/ha, exceeding the standard (variety Ramonskaya Slastyona) by 0.37 and 0.28 t/ha, respectively. Leaves contain 13.6 % glycosides and 67.5 mg of vitamin C per 100 grams. Stevia plants reach maturity within 70 days.
