The laboratory of vegetable production

The laboratory works on:

– devising new methods of selection in the production of cucumber breeder seeds;

– creating new varieties of high-quality edible squash.

Scientists of the laboratory created and released horseradish variety Atlant and cucumber varieties Ussuriiskii 3 and Vostok. Nowadays sampling of plants and phenological observations are conducted and the disease rate (downy mildew, bacteriosis) is constantly estimated to preserve stability of cucumber variety population Ussuriiskii 3 in the propagation process and to obtain high-quality seeds in a propagation nursery. Fruit shape index (length and width) being the most stable phenotypic trait serves as a marker in studies on the structure of a variety population.

Promising families of edible squash are tested in the propagation nursery. These families have economically important biological traits and morphological parameters. As the result, our researchers selected new breeding material of edible squash that is adapted to the conditions of Primorsky krai and has a high sugar content in fruits.

The laboratory produces breeder seeds of cucumber varieties Ussuriiskii 3 and Vostok, which are in demand on the modern market.
