Potato Breeding & Research

Germplasm Evaluation

  • Annual screening of 180–200 potato varieties from collection nurseries

  • 40–80 varieties crossed yearly in 60–80 hybrid combinations

Registered Varieties

  • 9 varieties developed, including 4 in the State Register of Breeding Achievements:

    • Dachnyi (Bronze Medal, 2013)

    • Yantar’ (Silver Medal, 2011; RAAS Award 2005)

    • Smak (Gold Medal, 2016)

    • Kazachok (Gold Medal, 2017)

  • New releaseAvgustin (2018, Patent No. 9476)

Seed Production

  • Annual output: 60–75 tons of super-elite seeds (9 varieties, including Adretta, Zhukovskii (early), Sante, Udacha)

  • Greenhouse capacity: 780 m² (3 arch-shaped structures) → 60,000 mini-tubers/year (16 varieties)

    • Used for:
      ✓ Elite seed propagation
      ✓ Direct commercial distribution

Storage & Quality Research (Since 2011)

  • Improved tuber storage technologies

  • Quality assurance per GOST standards

  • A.K. Chaika Prize (FEB RAS, 2018) for research:
    “Ways to improve efficiency of potato production based on the results of breeding work and seed production in FSBSI ‘PrimSRIA’ (reorganized into the FSC of Agricultural Biotechnology of the Far East named after A.K. Chaiki in 2018).”
