Laboratory of Seed Production

The laboratory has been conducting research and working on the production of seeds of field crops since 1963.

The main research area is optimiation of methods, techniques and schemes for growing planting materials, producing breeder and elite seeds of field crops that are included in the State Register of Selection Achievements admitted to use in the Russian Far East.

Annually the Center produces more than 600 tons of breeder seeds of released varieties and distributes them among businesses, which are engaged in seed multiplication and production of elite seeds. We work with 11 different field crops and 21 varieties. In general, the Center provides local businesses with 150 tons of breeder seeds of early grain crops, 150 tons of soybean seeds, 10 tons of annual grass seeds and 5 tons of perennial grass seeds. Up to 60 tons of elite soybean seeds are produced to meet the demand from farmers in Primorsky krai.

We offer methodological support for breeder seed production and collaborate with agricultural enterprises.

The laboratory considers legal and regulatory aspects of the use of breeding achievements certified by patents and protected by the Federal Law “On Seed Production” and Article 4 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation.

A new grain cleaning complex with active ventilation bunkers for 150 tons of grain came into operation in 2010.

The laboratory conducts research on how various sowing dates and seeding rates influence performance of new soybean varieties.

We published guidelines “Technology for the breeder seed production of early grain crops under the conditions of Primorsky krai”, which cover the topics of the cultivation, certification and distribution of breeder and elite seeds.
